Understanding osteoarthritis
A degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage between any joints in the human body, breaks down. Symptoms of osteoarthritis include pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. Prolonged periods of inactivity also contribute to the stiffness in the joints. If you are suffering from osteoarthritis, contact us today. We also offer other services such as biomechanics
and laser treatments.
A synovial joint is a point where 2 or more bones meet in the human body. The joints have:
Synovial fluid that lubricates the joint
Synovial membrane which produces this fluid
Cartilage that is a shock absorber and reduces friction
If the synovial fluid becomes watery, the cartilage can become worn causing stiffness, swelling and pain
Ultra Sound Diagnostics
We use an Ultra Sound Diagnostic machine to help with diagnosis and location for Steroid or Ostenil injections.
Ostenil is a solution that contains hyaluronic acid. The solution is injected in the space between the affected joint that contains synovial fluid. Ostenil works by restoring the balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid.
This could encourage the growth of new cartilage, leading to a decrease in pain and an improvement in the stiffness of the joint.
Steroid injections
Often used for reduction of pain and inflammation in joints and soft tissue. We use anesthesia to reduce any pain during the procedure.
You will need an initial consultation at £70.00
a steroid injection costs £195.00 and may include ultrasound guidance.
